Why name Smile?
Name came about discussions on how to design "magic cookie", initial byte sequence that can be used to heuristically detect content type. There was desire to have something easily readable and recognizable; and a two-character Smiley, followed by a linefeed seemed like an interesting candidate; interesting enough to be chosen as the marker. And this is where the name itself came from.
There are multiple other associations and connotations with term "Smile" -- let us know what you have so we can collect nice set of apocryphal stories around the name!
